REBEL POEM AMERICAN TEE
This is part one of a collaboration between artists Elton Burgest and Leah Fleurimond. REBEL is an homage to the Escaped slave Gordon, also known as "Whipped Peter”. He was a runaway slave turned abolitionist who fought in the civil war. He used the scars on his back to reveal the harsh nature of slavery to the general public at the time. Burgest copts the term “REBEL” used often to describe the rebellious spirit of the southern Confederate soldiers and uses it to describe what he felt were the real REBELS during this conflict which were the rebellious black slaves like Gordon. Fleurimond uses this story as inspiration for a beautiful poem that is featured on the shirt. Only 25 of these shirts are available.
